UFC Fight Night Blanchfield vs. Barber May 31st 2025 Preview.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is just one day away from the upcoming UFC Vegas 107 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which is set to go down tomorrow night (Sat., May 31, 2025) on ESPN and ESPN+ from inside APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC Vegas 107 features a flyweight main event between Top 5 title contenders Erin Blanchfield and Maycee Barber, a five-round showdown with possible title implications for late 2025 and beyond. Before we dive into the main and co-main events, which include the lightweight collision between Mateusz Gamrot and Ludovít Klein, check out Andrew Richardson’s “X-Factor” breakdown for the rest of the UFC Vegas 107 main card. Erin Blanchfield has quietly put together a 7-1 record under the UFC banner with three submission finishes. Along the way, “Cold Blooded” defeated two former strawweight champions in the form of Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade. Her lone defeat across that span came in a decision loss to Manon Fiorot, currently ranked No. 2 at 125 pounds, but “The Beast” faltered in her attempt to usurp the throne from Valentina Shevchenko. That means Blanchfield has an opportunity to score the next flyweight title shot with a victory at UFC 107, adding an extra layer of motivation — along with an extra layer of pressure. Blanchfield said during the UFC Vegas 107 media day. “I plan on winning in an impressive fashion. I would love to take that title off Shevchenko. She’s a legend of the sport and definitely in the flyweight division. That’s definitely my plan. Maycee’s a pretty aggressive fighter. A lot of forward pressure. Big hooks. This is her first five-rounder, so I could see her possibly being a little more reserved, but I think that’s going to come out of her at some point.”

Barber blasted her way into UFC with a technical knockout victory on Dana White’s “Contender Series” back in summer 2018, but hit a rough patch early in her UFC career. Following back-to-back losses to Roxanne Modafferi and Alexa Grasso, Barber rattled off six straight wins but only managed one finish along the way. In addition, four of those victories came against opponents who are no longer with the promotion. The biggest concern for Barber coming into this five-round headliner is her conditioning. “The Future” — who already blew out her ACL in 2020 — missed more than a year of action as a result of illness and will now be tasked with 25 minutes of violence against a 26 year-old flyweight competing in the prime of her career. “I don’t care who’s in front of me,” Barber told MMA Fighting. “I’m ready to put them all away and get my spot for the belt. I’ve never turned down a fight and I’ve never said no. I’ve never walked away from anything, and there was like five different names that were thrown at me, but the only one that stuck, I think the only one that made sense — whether it was like from an injury perspective or matchup perspective, I think all of it added up — it was Erin and so I took it and here we are. [I don’t want] a back and forth brawl, so I plan on hurting Erin and I plan on finishing her in a dominant way and getting my spot.” Barber is a high-output striker, landing nearly five significant strikes per minute — though Blanchfield is not far behind her in terms of volume. Where “The Future” has an advantage is her accuracy, as well as her defense, which I expect to propel her to an early lead at UFC Vegas 107.  This is going to be a closely-contested battle that I give to “Cold Blooded” based on her late activity.
