AEW Dynamite February 5th 2025 Preview.
Dynamite airs tonight (Feb. 5) with a live show from Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. This is the sixth episode of Dynamite during the ten week build towards AEW Revolution, which takes place on March 9. The main event of Dynamite is Swerve Strickland vs. Ricochet. This fight has been in the works ever since Swerve humiliated Ricochet by helping AEW fans shower him in toilet paper, to which Ricochet retaliated by repeatedly stabbing Swerve in the head with gold scissors and spilling his blood all over the place. The former AEW world champion is now out for revenge.
AEW Dynamite, at its best, offers intriguing contests where the results and finishes are hard to predict. The newly re-christened Hounds of Hell have fans invested and are so early in their new run. But The Don Callis Family members, Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher, are taking on two of wrestling’s GOATs at Grand Slam – someone must lose. For the Hounds, they have just reset themselves. Losing now that they’re leaderless undermines their new pathway. Likewise, Takeshita and Fletcher can’t afford the loss. But someone must lose. However, if the contest is as jaw-dropping, physical, and mesmerizing as the graphic suggests, the result will be secondary. This dream factory contest will see mirroring opposites collide. Beef battling between Takeshita and Brody King is going to leave fans barking and hoarse. Seeing the two Aussie hybrids of Buddy Matthews and Kyle Fletcher flying, kicking, and spiking each other could be kinetic poetry. Surely, this might not be a one-and-done? There are possible ways this links to further contests at Grand Slam and beyond. Will Ospreay did say he’d have Matthew’s back.
Ricochet explained his recent attitude change last weekend on Collision by blaming it on AEW fans for quickly turning their backs on him after spending years begging him to join the promotion. Swerve happens to think that’s a weak excuse. He went on to say AEW has “a special gift at exposing people for who they truly are.” Swerve said everyone can see that Ricochet is a phony who pretended to be a super hero. The fans saw through his bullshit and that’s why they rejected him. For his part, Ricochet admitted he was only pretending to “give a damn about those people.” He doesn’t care what the fans think about him, and he never will.
As far as tonight’s match is concerned, Swerve promises it won’t be a showcase of athleticism or innovation. This is going to be a violent fight, and that dork Ricochet can’t win a fight against the most dangerous man in AEW. Ricochet isn’t intimidated by Swerve’s threats, because he believes that Strickland hasn’t been the same man ever since Hangman Page beat his ass at All Out. Buddy Matthews and Brody King now wrestle under the name Hounds of Hell, and they are booked in an “International All-Star Tag Match” tonight against Kyle Fletcher and AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita. Fletcher and Takeshita are facing the actual all-star duo of Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay in 10 days at Grand Slam Australia, so it would be surprising if they lose this tag team match before then. However, Buddy is angling for a shot against AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada, and a loss won’t do him any favors in that regard. Perhaps Brody King is the odd man out.
